An energy storage device, a hydraulic accumulator is a pressure storage reservoir in which non-compressible hydraulic fluid is held under pressure by compressed gas. An accumulator is used in a hydraulic system to meet extremes in flow demand allowing the supply circuit to respond more quickly to any temporary demand and to smooth pressure pulsations.

Test Based Sizing Tips

One Shot Test Accumulator sizing
A 1 gallon accumulator  provides 12 cubic inches of oil at a 300 psi drop with a 1500 psi pre-charge.
A 4 liter accumulator provides 210 cubic cm of oil at a 21 bar drop with 104 bar pre-charge.

Cyclic Test Accumulator Sizing
V = Accumulator Volume
A = Piston Area
D = Pk-Pk Actuator Displacement

For Gallons
V = 0.03 x A(in2) x D(in)

For Liters
V =  0.007 x A(cm2) x D(cm)

For short duration, high flow demand tests, an accumulator bank can be used in place of a large hydraulic power unit. The bank can be charged with a small displacement pump, saving energy and reducing your equipment costs.

Hydraulic Service Manifolds (HSM)

Hydraulic Service Manifolds provide a mounting point for filters, accumulators and control valves as required by the hydraulic system. Shore Western's Service Manifolds are fluid regulating devices capable of performing multiple functions. They are designed to solve system configuration problems. Manifolds are available from basic, low cost versions providing only the required fluid routing to enhanced designs that include filtering, accumulators, soft (slow) turn on/off, independent remote control of high and low pressure and manually variable surge compensation. Hydraulic Service Manifolds can provide for multiple output pressures or isolated source connections from a single high pressure supply. Features include:

  • Modular design simplifies system configuration.
  • Standard 3000 psi (207 bar) operating pressure.
  • ON/OFF flow control.
  • High/LOW and ramping pressure control.
  • Accumulators regulate variations pressure and flow.

With standard flow ratings from 15 to 700 gallons per minute (57 to 2650 liters per minute) Shore Western hydraulic service manifolds are available in a variety of standard and custom configurations for structural, material and component testing systems.

21 and 22 Series Hydraulic Service Manifolds

These are free standing, floor mounted units that provide individual station control, smooth pressure transitions, fluid filtration and rapid pressure reduction on command.

  • The 22 Series provide for servo-valve mounting in addition to all of the features available on the 21 Series HSM.

  • While offering more features and flow rates, the 21 and 22 Series Hydraulic Service Manifolds are cost effective, direct replacements for MTS 293 Hydraulic Service Manifolds.

23 and 24 Series Hydraulic Service Manifolds

These are actuator mounted manifolds that provide mounting for servo-valves, accumulators and offer overload, load limit and shutoff valve options.

  • The 23 Series provides for mounting a single servo-valve and the 24 Series provides for dual servo-valve applications.

  • While offering more features and higher flow rates, the 23 and 24 Series Hydraulic Service Manifolds are cost effective, direct replacements for MTS Actuator Manifolds.
